Ascent For Action 2027 bridges terminal disease research with environmental climate awareness. Built on the core values of courage, strength, and commitment, this initiative honors personal resilience while actively contributing to global scientific and ecological preservation.

The Personal Story

The inspiration for Ascent For Action 2027 began as a mission to honor my late wife, Trish, who passed away in 2022 after battling Alzheimer’s Disease and Type-1 Diabetes. The project's vision expanded in 2026 when my brother, Kevin, was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Reflecting on their daily perseverance, I was reminded of my sister, Linda, who lost her battle to cystic fibrosis in 1973 at age seven.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro serves as a physical reflection of their enduring strength—mirroring the immense mental and physical challenges posed by distance, elevation, and harsh mountain environments.

The Scientific & Environmental Mission

As a geologist dedicated to restoring and preserving Earth’s ecosystems, I recognize a parallel crisis: the urgent need to restore public confidence in science while protecting vulnerable ecosystems.

Mount Kilimanjaro’s environment faces severe impacts from ongoing climate change. The environmental branch of Ascent For Action 2027 seeks to:

  • Document Glacier Dynamics: Evaluate summit glacier retreat and ecosystem shifts over the past two decades.

  • Support Reforestation: Raise targeted funding for tree-planting and habitat restoration initiatives along Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes.

Where Your Donation Goes (100% Direct Impact)

You maintain full control over your contribution. 100% of all direct donations go straight to the cause of your choice:

  • Disease Research & Support: Choose to give through our UCHealth Anschutz Medical Campus crowdfunding page or via direct links to national foundations including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Diabetes Association, and related cancer and Alzheimer's charities.

  • Environmental Restoration: Direct your funds to local Mount Kilimanjaro reforestation initiatives.

Key Strategic Partnerships

To ensure complete transparency, rigorous research, and maximum campaign reach, Ascent For Action 2027 collaborates with leading organizations:

  • UCHealth: Hosting our crowdfunding platform via the Anschutz Medical Campus to support targeted medical research.

  • Kilimanjaro Mountain Club: Providing access to historical photography, expedition logs, and library archives to establish baseline climate trends and support environmental assessments.

  • Colorado School of Mines Alumni Association: Partnering to publish and disseminate the final geological and climate research findings to the global scientific community.
